We understand that construction activity can be disruptive and inconvenient, and we sincerely apologise for any disturbance the construction of the new school and hospital may cause.
We are committed to completing this project as efficiently as possible while maintaining the highest standards of safety and consideration for the surrounding community. Updates detailing planned construction works will be posted here on a regular basis - please check back for the latest news.
The working hours are as follows, per the planning consent:
- Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 6:00pm
- Saturday working between 8:00am and 1:00pm only in exceptional circumstances
- Sundays and Bank Holidays – No noisy works unless agreed in special circumstances (residents will be notified via letter drops as appropriate)

1. Works and deliveries beginning
Following our 'groundbreaking' ceremony marking the start of construction at Barnes, works on the new NHS facility and the school are now progressing through to 2027.
With preparatory drainage works completed over September 2025, construction works astarted as of October 2025. This means activity levels will increase significantly and in the upcoming weeks Willmott Dixon will commence the groundworks. They will also have an increased number of larger vehicles coming up South Worple Way delivering machinery and materials.
Demolition works on the residential side of the site are also underway and will progress through to March/April 2026.
2. Attenuation tank deliveries, October-November
The attenuation tank, a key part of the site's drainage infrastructure, will also arrive at site via a series of separate deliveries. An attenuation tank is an underground storage system that collects and temporarily holds excess rainwater during heavy storms, releasing it at a controlled rate to prevent flooding. By slowing the discharge of water, these tanks protect drainage systems, reduce erosion, and serve as a key part of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) in areas with large amounts of impermeable surfaces.
This will come on eight separate deliveries via a large vehicle with two deliveries a week starting from the 20 October 2025. In terms of works on site Willmott Dixon will be digging out an area for the attenuation tank below ground services and foundations.
3. Mitigating measures
We are committed to minimising disruption to our neighbours and have put the following measures in place:
• Noise and vibration control: Use of quieter equipment where possible, and acoustic barriers around particularly noisy operations along with noise and vibration monitoring tools.
• Dust suppression: Regular damping down of the site, use of dust screens, and wheel washing facilities for vehicles leaving the site.
• Traffic management: Designated delivery times to avoid peak traffic hours and clearly marked pedestrian walkways to ensure safe access.
• Site cleanliness: Regular cleaning of surrounding pavements and roads, and secure storage of all materials.
• Respectful conduct: All site operatives and contractors are expected to work considerately at all times maintaining courteous behaviour.
• Parking: There will be no parking on site, we have encouraged all operatives to use public transport
• Traffic management: There will be three traffic marshals at all times. One at our site gate and two at the level crossing to manage traffic up and down South Worple Way.
We will continuously monitor our activities to ensure that we are being a considerate neighbour during our time on site. Your feedback is important to us in ensuring we maintain the highest standards of considerate construction.
